As the Festival at BURN2 Winds Down…

I have some information to give about our schedule with processions on the two Burn days. We will follow abbreviated procession routes on Saturday and Sunday, details will be in a group notice sent out Thursday night.

At both the Man and Temple Burns, Lamplighters will be in attendance to lead the community to dance after the Burns. The Man will Burn on Saturday the 22nd of October at 12pm and 6pm SLT; the Temple will Burn on Sunday the 23rd of October. Lamplighters, especially Fire Dancers, are asked to be at the Lamplighters Village by 10:30am SLT and 4:30pm SLT to get ready for the processions.

In closing I leave this link with you, a beautiful thing to ponder as we look ahead to the Temple Burn and closing of Da Vinci’s Workshop, “DEAR GUARDIANS – A Burning Man Short Film”, created and uploaded by Ian MacKenzie.

A Little BURN2 Retrospective

Numerous photos have been shared on Flickr about the BURN2: Carnival of Mirrors event that ended last Sunday. We thought you might like to see some showing the Lamplighters and their NEW, beautiful processions.

BURN2 Carnival of Mirrors Opens TODAY

At noon Pacific time today, the 17th of October, the Lamplighters will open the eagerly anticipated BURN2 event called “Carnival of Mirrors” with their first procession.

We have some new things coming this year! You will immediately notice that we have synchronised processions, to help keep us together as we move along the procession route. Up to four groups of 10 avatars can walk together (total of 10 to 40, depending on the number of available Elders to lead each group). This allows us to keep the Lamplighters and participants together in procession and move along the route in a more orderly fashion. The walk is a slow, dignified movement. We don’t drum or dance, but rather we silently walk and two Lighters will light the lamps as we go along, all the way from the Village to the Temple.

Just show up at the Village about a half hour (or even an hour) early and we will quickly show how we will do our processions. This is new for all of us this year and we hope it will greatly improve the look and movement of our processions. Once we arrive at the Temple, we’ll do our usual enthusiastic fiery dancing and drumming and then quietly head back to the Village. After we return everyone is welcome to stay and continue drumming.

The Lamplighters Village is just a short walk from the main Gate at BURN2 – you can see the Lamplighter Man. Can’t miss him!

See you at the Village – and BURN ON!

Conception 2014

Inworld, we have been hearing news of the upcoming Conception event at BURN2. The setting is a Moonscape, the story goes like this:

Conception: A time to celebrate beginnings, and a time to celebrate the future, whether it is that of Burning Man, our experience with it, or the people we have and will come to know through it. How did we find these crazy folk we call Burners, how did we become Burners, and do we see a future Burning bright?

Sometimes it is good to look back at where we came from, so we can see how far we have come. A long, long, long, long, long time ago where we live now, looked much like our moon. So as we look back at the start of the flame this year, let’s do it under the stars on a landscape just waiting to come to life.

Conception 2014

As a Lamplighter, when you think about birth, conception, the start of things, what comes to mind? For us, bringers of the Fire, bringers of light at dark, at Conception, we will bring the fire to the event, with a Procession. We’ll light lamps along a path to the central gathering place, and there we will drum and dance to start the Conception week.

You are most warmly invited to join the procession on June 22nd at 10:00am SLT/PDT. Camp. Everyone is welcome to follow the Lamplighters Procession. We will gather at the Lamplighters Village on the virtual Playa about a half hour beforehand, don robes, and form up for a silent procession around the Playa to the gathering place below Center Once there we will drum and dance and bring the fire to the event and the Conception event will be officially open.
