Looking forward, we’ve got new reason to do so – we have new ROBES! They are partial mesh outfits and they are BEAUTIFUL. You can see them in the photos below this post. We will distribute them personally to group members – contact one of these Elders inworld: iSkye Silverweb, Freia Guillaume or Dream Wrexan.
We also have a place marked out on the playa for our Village for OctoBurn. Thanks to the generosity of members of The Lamplighters group, HeadLampe announced at last meeting that we were able to cover the full cost of a 2048 square meter plot for the Village. Donations are always appreciated, and the Lindens go toward the Lamplighters’ participation in the annual OctoBurn and other BURN2 events during the year. We are very excited that Dream Wrexan is going to build this year’s Village for OctoBurn. If you’d like to contribute one of your own creations to the build, contact Dream inworld.
At the BURN2 Center Camp Sunday night, The Lamplighters performed a Fire Dance together while waiting for the Temple Burn to commence. For a while there was some uncertainty as to whether we would be able to get a live stream of it, but it started on schedule, we saw the live stream, and we enjoyed watching a fabulous Temple Burn. Thank you to Motorbikematt for all his efforts!
We’ve got a lot of exciting things coming this year! Come join us at the next meeting, first Sunday in October – get your NEW robes, share input and ideas for the processions, contribute to the build of our Village, and just hang out with your fellow Lamplighters inworld! We look forward to seeing you.
As you may have been hearing, we have Conception coming up the weekend of the 14th of July. The Lamplighters in SL will be opening and closing as usual, and as usual we like to find a fun way to do it. Come join us and throw in some of your ideas! We also have a couple of other events to look forward to and get ready.
You can always drop a notecard on the Elders – iSkye Silverweb, Freia Guillaume, or Dream Wrexan – if you have an idea, suggestion or offer of something to share or do. Meeting today at 10:00am SLT (4th of June), as we usually meet on the first Sunday of each month. Come join us, find us on the playa somewhere.
I have some information to give about our schedule with processions on the two Burn days. We will follow abbreviated procession routes on Saturday and Sunday, details will be in a group notice sent out Thursday night.
At both the Man and Temple Burns, Lamplighters will be in attendance to lead the community to dance after the Burns. The Man will Burn on Saturday the 22nd of October at 12pm and 6pm SLT; the Temple will Burn on Sunday the 23rd of October. Lamplighters, especially Fire Dancers, are asked to be at the Lamplighters Village by 10:30am SLT and 4:30pm SLT to get ready for the processions.
In closing I leave this link with you, a beautiful thing to ponder as we look ahead to the Temple Burn and closing of Da Vinci’s Workshop, “DEAR GUARDIANS – A Burning Man Short Film”, created and uploaded by Ian MacKenzie.
BURN2’s decompression event, Skin Burn, will take place this Saturday the 7th of November. The Burns will be held twice: 10:00am PST/SLT and 6:00pm PST/SLT.
The Burns are open to the public, however, it is meant to be a low-lag Burn experience. To accomplish that, you will need to go to an off-playa check-in area to detach and reduce your scripts and Avatar Rendering Weight (ARW) before you can get the group tag and teleport to the playa. The playa will be closed to all except members of the “BURN2 Skin Burn” group. The Burns will be followed by much dancing in the embers to tunes spun by DJs.
To prepare for the Skin Burn, full information on how to pass the check-in can be found at BURN2’s website.
Numerous photos have been shared on Flickr about the BURN2: Carnival of Mirrors event that ended last Sunday. We thought you might like to see some showing the Lamplighters and their NEW, beautiful processions.
Share links in comments to other great pictures and even machinima of Lamplighters at BURN2 Carnival of Mirrors!
At noon Pacific time today, the 17th of October, the Lamplighters will open the eagerly anticipated BURN2 event called “Carnival of Mirrors” with their first procession.
We have some new things coming this year! You will immediately notice that we have synchronised processions, to help keep us together as we move along the procession route. Up to four groups of 10 avatars can walk together (total of 10 to 40, depending on the number of available Elders to lead each group). This allows us to keep the Lamplighters and participants together in procession and move along the route in a more orderly fashion. The walk is a slow, dignified movement. We don’t drum or dance, but rather we silently walk and two Lighters will light the lamps as we go along, all the way from the Village to the Temple.
Just show up at the Village about a half hour (or even an hour) early and we will quickly show how we will do our processions. This is new for all of us this year and we hope it will greatly improve the look and movement of our processions. Once we arrive at the Temple, we’ll do our usual enthusiastic fiery dancing and drumming and then quietly head back to the Village. After we return everyone is welcome to stay and continue drumming.
The Lamplighters Village is just a short walk from the main Gate at BURN2 – you can see the Lamplighter Man. Can’t miss him!
See you at the Village – and BURN ON!
